National Geographic Presents at Google NEXT

National Geographic was well represented at Google Cloud Next 2019, an annual event in San Francisco that brings together the IT community to discuss technology innovation and share case studies and best practices.

Melissa Wiley, vice president of digital products and e-commerce solutions for National Geographic Partners, presented on sustainability, using the example of how National Geographic’s migration of its Image Collection to Google Cloud has improved the organization’s carbon footprint. Melissa discussed the importance of incorporating environmental goals into IT planning and why delivering carbon-neutral services to customers helps National Geographic make a positive impact on its business and the planet.

Marcus East, NGP’s EVP of product and technology, presented as part of the Customer Innovation Keynote alongside Target, Chevron, the United States Government, Philips and other major Google clients. Marcus shared an overview of the Image Collection migration as an example of technical innovation and engineering excellence.

National Geographic also participated in an industry roundtable with Google’s sustainability team. Google Cloud is the first cloud provider to run entirely on 100 percent sustainable energy.
