National Geographic’s Instagram Accounts Reach 200 Million Followers

National Geographic is celebrating a new milestone, one that honors our legacy of visual storytelling. The 132 year old brand has hit 200 million followers across the core National Geographic Instagram accounts.

This milestone was made possible by the recently re-launched @NatGeointheField Instagram account, which is chronicling the effects of the COVID-19 virus in real-time, and features photos documenting the impact caused by the pandemic from Nat Geo photographers stationed around the world. Nat Geo in the Field launched in March and currently has 12.4 million followers.

The milestone celebrates the strength of National Geographic’s community of passionate fans, who are able to access Nat Geo’s powerful visual storytelling at their fingertips, as well as the photographers who share their images and stories directly from the field.

Nat Geo’s Instagram: 137.6 Million Followers

Nat Geo Travel’s Instagram: 38.7 Million Followers

Nat Geo in the Field’s Instagram: 12.4 Million Followers

Nat Geo Adventure’s Instagram: 7.2 Million Followers

In February 2019, National Geographic’s main Instagram account, @natgeo, become the first non-Instagram brand to reach 100 million Instagram followers. This account is now the 11th most followed Instagram account in the world.

Nat Geo’s Instagram, whose creative control is largely in the hands of a number of National Geographic’s contributing photographers, shares the rare and incredible sights they encounter on a daily basis and has been delighting audiences with the work of these amazing photographers for years. The stunning images that come through the feed every day, paired with captions from the photographers’ words, bring an authenticity to the account that has proven to resonate with the community.
